The new TLX is low, big, sporty, and sleek, and it commands your attention. The 2021 Acura TLX isn’t just a pretty face; it’s a whole new vehicle from the ground up. It also makes driving more appealing thanks to its powerful turbo control, long list of standard technology, and relaxed, confident road manners.

Main Features of the Acura TLX

  • Muscular exterior
  • Lower, longer and wider than the previous TLX
  • Delivers on the Type S concept design
  • New chassis exclusive to the 2021 Acura TLX sedan
  • Standard 2.0-liter engine has 66 more horsepower
  • Highly anticipated Type S performance variant coming spring of 2021

Speed of the Acura TLX

The Acura TLX is available with a 2.0-liter turbo-4 or a 3.0-liter turbo V-6 engine. The base engine produces 272 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, up 66 horsepower and 100 pound-feet from last year’s TLX and 13 pound-feet more than the outgoing V-6.

While Acura hasn’t specified a 0-60 mph time, it should be in the high 5-second range, making it faster than the previous V-6. Thanks to the smooth-shifting 10-speed automatic transmission, the turbo makes the power available early and keeps it on tap. The only drawback is an unnecessarily noisy exhaust note, which might be enjoyed by enthusiasts in Sport mode.

The Type S model will have a 3.0-liter V-6 engine that produces 355 horsepower and should achieve a 0-60 mph time in the mid-to-high 4-second range.

Cost of the Acura TLX?

The Acura TLX Advance trim for 2021 is priced at-

  • 47,325 dollars (Front-wheel drive)
  • 49,325 dollars (All-wheel drive)

When it goes on sale, the TLX Type S is supposed to be the most expensive model, with a price tag in the mid-to-low $50,000 range.

Remote ignition, adjustable dampers, rain-sensing wipers, surround view camera framework, 16-way power-adjustable front seats (sports), open-pore wood trim, powered mirrors, puddle lights, head-up display, heated steering wheels, and rear seats are all included in the Advance trim.

What are the Acura TLX’s trim levels?

The TLX comes in four different trim levels: base, technology, A-Spec, and Advanced. Acura refers to them as sets, but they’re basically the same as trim levels. All trims come standard with a 272-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine, a 10-speed automatic transmission, and front-wheel drive. Four-wheel drive is available on all models.

Keeping You Safe

Acura bakes protection into each new 2021 TLX using its Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) approach to body structure design, strengthened with additional high-strength steel in key places, a new protective front door ring on each side of the vehicle, and enhanced floor rigidity and load paths.

2021 Acura TLX & its Competition

Does Acura hold its ground to compete against the refined and powerful sedans?

2021 BMW 3 Series — For decades, the 3 Series has set the standard for many compact luxury sports cars (sedans), bringing fresh handling and a German purebred.

2021 Lexus IS – The Lexus is a solid competitor with intense styling and a reputation for unwavering quality and solid resale value, and it has been refreshed and revamped for 2021.

2021 Genesis G70 – This new arrival from Hyundai’s premium brand of automobiles provides exceptional driving skills, a slew of high-value standard features, and something that none of the others in this section do: a manual transmission.

2021 Audi A4 – Another European competitor, the Audi A4 provides a good balance of comfort and sportiness, as well as Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive system.

Mercedes-Benz C-Class (Second-Hand) – Few automobiles have the panache of a Mercedes-Benz, and the C-Class, with its spacious interiors and cutting-edge technology derived from the S-Class flagship, is a great prelude to the German pedigree.

The Acura TLX makes a strong first impression, but there are plenty of worthy rivals.

The BMW 5-Series has been refreshed and redesigned for 2021, and it now offers a long list of available powertrains—not only superior ones. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class, which now includes an off-road wagon, is in the same boat.

The Cadillac CT5 is newer and more developed, but a storm is on the way. The Audi A6 is a technophile’s dream, and it comes in a hot wagon version. The Volvo S60 is a bit of an introvert here, but it’s clean and sharp on the inside.

Final Impressions

Acura merged the former TSX and TL models to create the first TLX for the 2015 model year, but that has changed with this redesign. Now, the Acura TLX straddles the line between compact and midsize rivals, attempting to be a great sports sedan with enticing elegance and appealing value. The end result isn’t fine. But it’s certainly appealing, and it’s a significant upgrade from the previous TLX.
